The FPCA Meetings – Opening Comments
André Heck
Strasbourg Observatory
The first FPCA colloquium held in June 2007 at Brussels Royal Academy made quietly history as, for the first time ever, it gathered together all major partners – publishers, editors, archive managers, officers of learned societies, as well as scientists – involved in professional astronomy communication processes. It had been motivated by a convergence of facts and trends in the world of publishing (more generally of astronomy professional communication), as well as by fundamental interrogations from within the astronomy community. This introductory talk will remind history, set up pieces of context, and put forward a few issues that should be addressed.
