This meeting provided an open forum to discuss the state and evolution of professional communicating and in particular publishing in Astronomy. The list of attendees consisted of editors, publishers, librarians, archives managers, officers of learned societies, as well as scientists involved in professional communication and publishing as well as in evaluation processes. The program focused on the following areas:

  • Publishing: state of the art and trends
  • The role of learned societies
  • Bibliometric and other evaluation criteria
  • Communicating Astronomy with the public and other bodies
  • The future of Librarianship

Proceedings of the Colloquium have been published by Springer as Volume 1 of its Astrophysics and Space Science Proceedings Series. Presentations given at the meeting and related information is still available on this site:

The keynote speaker of the Colloquium was Prof. John Huchra, the Robert O. & Holly Thomis Doyle Professor of Cosmology and the Senior Advisor to the Provost for Research Policy at Harvard University. The Colloquium was organized and chaired by Prof. Andre Heck and Dr. Alberto Accomazzi and is a follow-up to the one held in Brussels on June 10-13 2007. Information Provider Summit

15-16 April 2010, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics

Following the Colloquium, the fourth Summit of Information Providers in Astronomy, Astrophysics and High Energy Physics  took place.  The Summit was attended by representatives from the ADS and INSPIRE projects, their main collaborators, and leading publishers in the field.
